There’s the story of the discovery of cricket in
Parur. When one day Rajagopalan and his friend Vijayan
Menon were returning to the bus stop from college, they
saw a strange looking game being played in the college
field. “For nearly half an hour we just stood and watched,
but could make nothing out of what was going on,” he would
recollect later.
Curiosity had been ignited. From that day the two
youngsters pored over the Pears Encyclopedia in
Rajagopalan house and learnt about the white flannelled
lot. They read Neville Cardus, and some other books from
college library. They set up the game in their town,
listened to cricket commentary from the radio and two
years hence |
