It had strong
researches in the field of ultrasonics,
microwave, x-ray spectroscopy, optic spectroscopy,
theoretical physics, and particle physics, besides “a well

It was in the cradle of the Ganga Jamuna tehzeeb of
Allahabad that Rajagopalan developed a keen interest in
instrumental music. The interest was invested with the
peculiar blend of the modern with the ancient.
He learned north
Indian classical music in Hawaiian guitar, which also
familiarized him with performing halls and stages. This
was the world, which he entered as an aesthete, and would
eventually enrich through his work in as a technocrat.
After his masters, acoustic propagation in matter
attracted his attention, and became the topic of his
research for Ph.D. thesis. In 1977 he was selected as a
senior Fulbright Scholar in the University of Oklahoma at
Norman (USA). He did his post-doctoral research on the
attenuation and dispersion of acoustic energy in condensed
matter.
He was invited as an expert in his field to several
universities in the United States, Sweden, United Kingdom
and Singapore.
